First performed on New Year’s Eve 1975-1976, calling from Springfield, Ohio forward to Christo and Jeanne-Claude, Nam June Paik, and Dick Higgins in New York, then back to Tom Garver and Natasha Nicholson in California. Celebrated annually since then by telephone,telefax, and email. With Melbourne, Australia going into the New Year before most of the world, messages have gone back to the old year since 2008.

This is why textoftheday has been on hold. We gave in to the force majeure and saw our friend Jane Moody out of this world. Today's entry marks a moment of imaginary witness, a meeting of hands as life becomes death. It is a detail from an Ancient Greek funerary relief, now in the Keramikos cemetery in Athens. Hands receive and enfold the dead one as she passes into the underworld.
